How are you sensing climate change?
In the summer of 2021, I spent a week hiking and camping in Grand Teton National Park, in Jackson, Wyoming. It was my first time at this park and the range of mountains, hikes, and lake activities was truly incredible. Unfortunately, the entire park was shrouded in fire and smog. Risking my health to enjoy these new spaces, I developed a bad cough and cold for weeks afterward. Driving for hundreds of miles around the western US, I was continually shrouded in smog and smoke, never really seeing the sun.
How do these changes make you feel?
It was depressing to experience a beautiful park for the first time and see how fragile the ecosystem is. It was sad to see the local populations who stay here permanently and have no other choice but to risk their health to go about their daily lives.
