How are you sensing climate change?
Ever since I was little, like since I’ve been able to understand humans, I’ve known about climate change. I come from two parents who are “activists” (they don’t really like the label), and do things such as protesting, raising awareness, and educating people, and are very vocal about things they are passionate and care about. One of the things my mama cares about is coral reefs, because they are very beautiful organisms, and are home to a lot of interesting and amazing organisms, but coral reefs are being bleached because of the rise in temperature in ocean waters. Therefore the water is becoming too hot for them. Another problem is the Philippine Islands are at risk of being put underwater. Locally for me, the summers in the PNW are getting increasingly hotter. They used to be more temperate with rain and not super hot temperatures, and recently during the pandemic, the PNW had an intense heatwave, while the southern US had snow and cold weather.
How do these changes make you feel?
They make me feel sad and worried for my mama’s home, and my family’s home, and if future generations are going to have the same Earth we want them to have.
