Mrinalini’s Climate Story

How are you sensing climate change?
The place where I grew up was lush with nature. It was a small town in Gujarat in India. We had mango farms near my house. The mango farms have now disappeared to create new residential spaces. On the other hand, the mango demand has surged worldwide and farmers now use artificial substances to decrease the time it takes for mangoes to ripen. This has led to a steep reduction in qualities of mangoes in my region.
How do these changes make you feel?
I feel that the rapid urbanization in a country like India has led to many such deforestation activities. On one side, I feel bad about these changes. On the other side, I feel that developing countries, such as India, need to do this to accelerate their growth and accommodate urbanization.
