How are you sensing climate change?
I’m doing a project in my class about climate and have to make my own climate story. I chose to do it on aloe vera plants because my aunt has always had one in her home growing up, and she still has one now. I’ve also recently made an ecosystem for an aloe vera plant in my classroom. From what I researched, aloe is in a grave of danger, and you guessed it: yes, it’s because of climate change. “Changes in climate like precipitation and temperature are likely to have a profound effect on the distribution of Aloe Vera species.” This can cause them to go extinct. Aloe vera plants were found by the Egyptians; they even have carvings of the plant that are 6,000+ years old. Aloe vera has adapted a lot to where you can have it on your table as a centerpiece. Aloe vera is in a lot of medications and ointments and helps treat hundreds of people with dry skin and other complications they might have. I just hope we don’t have to say goodbye to aloe vera.
How do these changes make you feel?
I feel sad if they’re gonna be extinct. It makes me worried for the ending of aloe vera and the beginning of dry skin.
