Warren’s Climate Story
Cape Town, South Africa 7701
How are you sensing climate change?
Cape Town is usually very rainy but a few years ago they experienced intense water shortages. People became a lot more conscious about their water usage as rationing was very strict. They also relied quite heavily on water being brought in from other areas. I’m not entirely certain whether people are still conscious of their water use after that experience but it was a shock to the system for a city used to an abundance of water.
How do these changes make you feel?
It was sad to see, especially because I have friends who live there so it felt a little more personal. However, I am also a little disappointed because I don’t think a lot of people living there have linked the water shortage to climate change. Some have even left the city for other places because they believe the problem is isolated to Cape Town.
