How are you sensing climate change?
I have lived in Oregon my entire life (21 years) and recently the warmer weather has become more apparent and hazardous. In the past few years, the wildfires caused by drought and heat waves have become more common, often leading to acres and acres being burnt to nothing. I have had loved ones and people I know, including myself, lose so much from damage done by wildfires. Along with that, extreme weather conditions have caused lightning to also start these wildfires, which has become a problem that has become more apparent recently. This summer Oregon has seen record breaking heat waves and dangerous fires and it is a reminder that things are only going to get worse.
How do these changes make you feel?
Overall, this makes me feel sad. The place where I have lived my entire life, is now starting to become unrecognizable. The fact that some people still do not consider these heat waves and fires to be a part of climate change, is devastating. In order to help save the environment, things need to change. Environmental ethics have shared the way I feel by asking how we as a society address these issues. It reminds me that a lot of work still needs to be done. We need to protect the environment in order to have the places we love thrive instead of die.
