How are you sensing climate change?

Bodies: Everywhere, bodies. The road is lined with the splattered remains of beaver, raccoon, opossum, squirrels, snakes, deer, cats, and dogs. I try not to look directly at the carnage. Still, in my peripheral vision, I catch the flat shape of a tail or the betrayed hunch of a back across the asphalt. Driving on any two-lane road, I am reminded of the genocides this nation is built on: those murders of indigenous animals, plants, families, and traditions. I do not let myself linger on the thought too long, lest I become distracted from driving, surviving I am, I know, complicit in this roadkill. But what might it matter if the road itself is a dead-end?
